Daily Briefing Bot
The agent runs on a cron schedule, performs autonomous web research across designated topics, compiles findings into a concise summary, and delivers the brief to Telegram, Discord, or a local Markdown file.
To reduce execution time, topic research can be delegated to parallel sub-agents so that total runtime matches the slowest single query rather than the sum of all tasks. Returning [SILENT] in the prompt's final response suppresses delivery on quiet days.
Requirements
- The
FIRECRAWL_API_KEYenvironment variable for web search using Firecrawl. - Messaging gateway (Telegram or Discord) or local file output.
- Delegation support (optional, required for the parallel sub-agent workflow).
How to use
Cron jobs execute in fresh agent sessions without conversational memory, requiring self-contained prompts.
- Install Hermes Agent and start the gateway so the cron scheduler can run unattended.
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent/main/scripts/install.sh | bash
hermes setup
hermes gateway install # as a user service
- Set
FIRECRAWL_API_KEYin your environment to enable web search. - Configure a delivery channel (Telegram or Discord) during
hermes setup, or use--deliver localto save briefings to~/.hermes/cron/output/.
Single-topic configuration scheduled daily at 8:00 AM:
/cron add "0 8 * * *" "Every morning at 8am, search the web for the latest
news about AI agents and open source LLMs. Summarize the top 3 stories in
a concise briefing with links. Use a friendly, professional tone. Deliver
to telegram."
Parallel variant delegating topic research across sub-agents:
/cron add "0 8 * * *" "Create a morning briefing by delegating research
to sub-agents. Delegate three parallel tasks:
1. Delegate: top 2 AI/ML stories from the past 24h with links
2. Delegate: top 2 crypto stories from the past 24h with links
3. Delegate: top 2 space exploration stories from the past 24h with links
Collect results and combine into a single clean briefing with section
headers, emoji, and source links. Add today's date as a header."
To generate briefings only on weekdays, change the schedule expression from 0 8 * * * to 0 8 * * 1-5.
