Find and install a skill
Your computer
You need OpenClaw with a working chat. Model replies may cost money. Install OpenClaw.
Find the skill you need
Open the ClawHub catalogue and search by name or task. If your recipe already links to a skill, open that link.
Check the publisher and description, not just the title. Read Requirements for any accounts, keys or extra software you need.
Install from the listing
⌘ + Space → type Terminal → Enter.
Copy the command → paste here: ⌘ + V → Enter.
Run commands where the agent is installed. Running in WSL or on a server? Open the window there.
First, check which skills are already available:
openclaw skills list --verbose
Is your skill marked ready? Go to step 3. If it is missing, open Install → CLI in its ClawHub listing. Copy that command and run it in the same window.
After installing, run the command above again. Missing requirements? Meet them using the skill’s listing; reinstalling will not help.
Try a new chat
Status ready? Open a new OpenClaw chat. Name your chosen skill and ask it to carry out your task.
Check that the agent used the intended skill and returned the result you expected.
Example: Weather — a weather forecast
Weather listing — Peter Steinberger, @steipete/weather. Needs internet and curl; no separate weather key is required.
Check whether it is already installed:
openclaw skills info weather
If the skill is not found, install it. Skip this if it is already ready:
openclaw skills install @steipete/weather
In a new OpenClaw chat, send:
Use the weather skill: what is the weather in Minsk right now, and do I need an umbrella today? Include the forecast source.
Check that the agent used a weather service and returned a current forecast with a source.
If the command fails or the skill is missing
Skills install not found? Check for an OpenClaw update. Installation refused? Read the reason; do not bypass a block with --force. Commands and chat must use the same agent. Plugins use a different installation command; this guide covers skills.
