Run Hermes on iPhone with a Self-Hosted Relay and Connector
Hermes iOS is a self-hosted iPhone companion for a user-owned Hermes runtime, adding a native iOS app, a relay, and a host-side connector so Hermes can move between desktop, phone, sensors, voice, widgets, and local agent tools.
Requirements
- The Hermes iOS app, relay, and host connector are all required.
- The
hermes_mobileMCP tools are required. - OpenAI Realtime is optional and is needed only for voice mode.
- Grant Health, location, motion, camera, and notification permissions only for the iOS features you choose to use.
- Unused sensor features do not need permission.
How to use
Keep sensor data local unless you deliberately expose it; self-hosting the relay and connector supports that privacy posture.
Expose the relay beyond the local network only when you intend to make it reachable remotely.
Set up the app, relay, and connector:
Run the relay, pair the iPhone app with the connector, and point the connector at the local Hermes runtime.
The following is example connector-side usage after setup:
Hermes reads sensor data from the local connector SQLite database through the
bundled MCP server.
For physical devices, use a LAN IP or public URL for the relay, because localhost on the phone points back to the phone, not the Hermes host.
Use phone context:
Request the current phone context with the supplied prompt.
Use my latest location and activity data to plan a realistic evening errand
route. Do not send messages or create calendar events without approval.
For a health dashboard:
Query the available iOS sensor metrics for the past 30 days and build a local
markdown summary with step, sleep, and heart-rate trends.
For a camera-assisted workflow:
Use the latest camera attachment from Hermes iOS to identify the device model
and draft setup notes for it.
