Autonovel — House of Bells

The public Autonovel repo runs a Hermes-driven pipeline that generated, reviewed, illustrated, type-set in LaTeX, and voiced a complete 19-chapter novel, House of Bells, as an audiobook.

Requirements

  • An Anthropic API key, used for Opus-driven review rounds.
  • Optionally, a FAL key for art generation and an ElevenLabs key for voice synthesis.
  • uv for environment management.

How to use

The repo is public and runnable, and a full run requires substantial wall-clock time and non-trivial API spend; it is a production repo with real API costs, best treated as a case study you can run end-to-end if you want to.

It is the clearest evidence to date that a Hermes-driven pipeline can ship a polished creative artifact, not just a demo.

Setup follows the repo's Setup section.

It is not a lightweight demo.

git clone https://github.com/NousResearch/autonovel
cd autonovel
cp .env.example .env
# fill in ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, and optionally FAL_KEY and ELEVENLABS_API_KEY
uv sync
# follow the repo's run instructions
